News25 March 2009 Tarragona selects five companies from 25 applicationsThe 20th International Fireworks Competition Ciutat de Tarragona this year will take place from the 7th to the 11th July at the Punta del Miracle of Tarragona. A public draw determined the order of participants. The draw was overseen by the Counsellor for Culture of the City Council of Tarragona, Ms Sandra Coloma, and by the Counsellor for Culture, Communication, Image and City Relations of the City Council of Granollers, Ms Alba Barnussell, an institution which has been associated with the event since 2005. The competition offers quality displays, with three Valencian companies, one Austrian and one Italian. Four are firing in the competition in Tarragona for the first time in line with the organisers' desire for innovation. Twenty five companies (one more than in 2008) entered the draw. Probably one of the reasons for the high number of applications was that this year, despite the economic crisis, the organisation is offering the same amounts of money to the participating companies and the same official prizes. Applicants came from Australia, Canada, Italy, Poland, the UK, Ukraine and Spain. Tuesday 7th July: Pirotècnia Hermanos Caballer, from Almenara, Castelló (País Valencià) Wednesday 8th July: Feuerwerke Jost, from Wagram (Austria). Thursday 9th July: Pirotècnia Martí, from Burriana, Castelló (País Valencià) Friday 10th July: Fabbrica Fuochi La Tirrena SAS, from Mondragone (Italy) Saturday 11th July: Pirotècnia Caballer, S.A., from Godella (País Valencià) The five participating companies are expected to provide varied and spectacular shows to a daily audience of more than 60,000 people.
