News5 March 2009 Renegade Pyrotechnics FireThe reported fire at Renegade Pyrotechnics has caused a headache for the team but no injury. No fireworks were affected. Nigel Hay told Fireworks: 'Our equipment store was set alight by vandals on the evening of Sunday 1 March and was burnt out. The firework store was not affected and has since been inspected by the fire service and Trading Standards. It is believed that the same people were responsible for a number of acts of vandalism around Rye Harbour recently. The police have now arrested one juvenile and are continuing their investigation. 'Unfortunately we have lost all of our tools and safety equipment as well as mechanisms built over the years to create effects. We are a non profit group whose volunteer members stage displays in order to provide the fireworks for the Hastings Day parade. The parade raises money for a number of local charities. 'This is a severe blow to Renegade and Hastings bonfire but we are hopeful that we will be able to somehow re-equip and continue with our work.'
