Malta Ground Fireworks Festival 2009 23 April - 25 April 2009

Malta offers the opportunity to escape the Winter chill and see some remarkable fireworks.

The setting up of the first of the large firework displays will begin at 5pm on 23rd April 2009. One can admire the complexity and workmanship involved in putting together such huge mechanised ground fireworks displays on the site of the actual event. Setting up can be viewed on each of the succeeding two days.

The firework display programme will start at 10.30pm after a musical programme performed by the Vilhena Band Club of Floriana.

Each firework factory will present two spectacular displays which will be judged on the following merits: Best Mechanism, Use of Mechanism Chains, Best Products and Originality.

The Jury will be composed of international pyrotechnicians. They will be assisted by local expert Mr. Joe Theuma, Secretary of the Malta Pyrotechnic Association.

The public's opinion will also be taken into account as there will be a Public Opinion Prize which will be assigned to the factory which gets most votes via SMS voting

A compere will provide spectators with general information in English before each firework display.

The display companies will perform in a predetermined order and each participant will have two displays:

In the eventuality of bad weather, the festival will be moved to the 26th or 27th of April 2009, depending on weather forecasts.

The general public is invited to come to Floriana early as the Parish Church will be open for visitors. One can also observe the huge fireworks and their intricate mechanisms before the display begins.
