News3 December 2008 Classification WorkshopHSE, working in conjunction with the Explosives Industry Group of the CBI, are to hold a workshop on the classification of fireworks and related pyrotechnics. The primary aim of the workshop is to provide practical advice to those who manufacture and import fireworks in obtaining approval for the classification of their fireworks under the UN default scheme. The workshop will be on Thursday 29th January 2009 at Centre Point in London and is particularly targeted at those who rely on the UN default classification scheme for the classification of the fireworks they manufacture or import. The emphasis of the day will be on good practical advice to understand the classification process and to promote the prompt and efficient processing of applications. There is no cost for delegates to attend the workshop, but allocation of places will be on a first come, first served basis, on receipt of registration. HSE will be contacting companies who hold classification documents for fireworks and similar pyrotechnics with application details. Should you have an interest in attending and do not hear from HSE by the New Year, please contact Carolyn Ashton of the Health and Safety Executive at carolyn.ashton@hse.gsi.gov.uk. Responses will be required by 9th January 2009 and places will be allocated on a first come first serve basis.
