NewsSIX OF THE BEST FOR SOUTHPORTAugust 2007 Six leading firework companies will light up the skies of Southport, Merseyside as they compete to become winners of this year's prestigious British Musical Fireworks Championships. This three-night festival of sound and vision takes place from the 5th -7th October in the town's Kings Gardens, which over-look its picturesque Marine Lake. The competition provides the competitors with a level playing field by setting a maximum weight of fireworks which all the companies can use. This ensures true creativity and innovation are what's judged, with the end results proving a series of stunning, highly entertaining displays that are guaranteed to wow audiences. Last year's winner, Festival Fireworks, will be defending their title and in customary style a further 5 companies names have been drawn out of the hat to compete against them. (continued under pictures) Each of the 3 nights will begin with a commentated educational display followed by 'The Lake of Dreams' - a Son et Lumiere display by Jubilee Fireworks which emphasises low-level illuminations and subtle effects and which plays on the lake's reflections. Expertly choreographed using FireOne, the most advanced computerised firing system in the world this is a display which that proves fire and water can mix! With appetites more than whetted it's then the turn of the competitive displays. On Friday the 5th of October Festival Fireworks will fire from 8.15pm followed at 8.45pm by Pyromania Displays. Saturday the 6th sees Anytime Fireworks take the 8.15pm slot with G-Force Fireworks firing from 8.45pm. Finally on Sunday 7th Essex Pyrotechnics will fire from 8.15pm with Phoenix Fireworks, the company responsible for firing 70,000 litres of paint in 70 seconds up a tower block in the Sony Bravia paintworks advertisement, completing the 3-night line up at 8.45pm. After this final display the judging panel, which includes both industry and lay members will adjourn, before announcing who is to be crowned the British Musical Fireworks Champion 2007. More than 60,000 people are expected at the event, which is being held slightly later in the year than previous championships. It's hoped that the earlier launch time, enabled by the nights drawing in, will allow even more families to attend and enjoy some of the very best displays the fireworks industry can offer. Ticket prices are £4 in advance, £5 on the gate while under 5s are free. For more details and to book tickets call 01704 533333 or visit www.visitsouthport.com.
