NEWS OF THE TARRAGONA FIREWORK COMPETITION IN SPAIN

A 3,000 euro allocation (the highest ever) has been announced for the 'Great Prize of the Public', awarded by the public at the Tarragona Firework Competition.

Sponsorship has made the 18th Firework Displays Competition Ciutat de Tarragona possible, and will provide the 'Great Prize of the Public' of €3,000, there having been, previously no prize other than the honour of winning.

The 'Great Prize of the Public' in Tarragona has become one of the attractions of the annual firework competition at Punta del Miracle. The public view of fireworks is different from that taken by the technical judges. Usually the popular vote has coincided with the vote from the official jury. There have been some exceptions, however, because of the closeness of the standards of the competitors. This happened, for example, last year at the Champion of Champions event.

The voting for the 'Great Prize of the Public' will be by means of ballots, a telephone poll and the Internet. Ballot boxes will be placed in Rambla Nova, at Miracle beach, and for the first time at the Marítim promenade. On the Internet, the public can vote at www.tarragona.piroart.com, and the telephone poll will involve sending a text message to 7200 with the word FOCS, dot (.) and the vote between 1 and 10.

Telephone votes and ballots may be cast during the 24 hours after each display, while on the Internet it will be possible to vote during the 48 hours after each display. Therefore, the recount will finish at 22:30 on Monday 9th July, while the verdict and award of the Great Prize of the Public will be announced on Thursday 12th. Last year a total amount of 7,724 votes were cast.
